Welcome to BYA Buddy Ball

Our purpose is to provide an athletic program for special needs children where they can learn sportsmanship, confidence and teamwork in a fun and active atmosphere. Everybody loves to play ball and it is our mission to make sure that every child can.

We welcome both boys and girls, roughly aged 4-18, with any special need that makes Buddy Ball a better option than BYA's standard baseball or softball programs. Registration is free, but players should bring their own gloves and helmets if possible. Our objective is to teach sportsmanship, cooperation and optimism in an athletic environment of encouragement and achievement.

We play a six-game spring schedule and a four-game fall schedule without practices. Games last two innings, which works out to around 40 minutes and we bat both team’s lineups completely each inning.

Players get to wear a uniform shirt and cap with no registration or other cost to parents. Players, however, should bring their own gloves, as well as helmets if possible. An inexpensive helmet can be purchased for around $10, but a few loaners might be available from the BYA equipment room also.

We use an 11 inch softball and a tee for the batters who need it. Each player has a buddy (usually a parent, sibling or friend) to accompany him or her while at bat and in the field.
